   History of CSS

Unbelievable fact, But yes its true, CSS was started just as an online Orkut community by our beloved founder Mr. N. Sathish Kumar a business man based in Chennai in 2006. We celebrated our 5th Anniversary on 7th August 2011.

2011 promises to be more challenging and exciting for our volunteers and also newer blood entering the system. All our team members work with a simple thing in their minds, "Share Your Living..."................this was the reason behind us being selected as ‘Orkut Heroes’ some time back.........

  Our Humble accomplishments

CSS had achieved a lot in these five years through its select teams. CSS had been spreading the message on sapling plantation through our unique initiative SMS-A-Sapling launched in 2009 and we are always associated with green tag wherever we move. Through SMS-a-Sapling we had given away saplings at over 4 weddings & community celebrations since October 2010. Our mantra has been to propagate indigenous varieties and work closely with other Green organisations. Our work would not have been possible without support from Isha Green Hands, Mullaivanam of Tree Bank and many other volunteers.

We have sponsored select few deserving students and some have been receiving support for last few years, in form of hostel rent, those pursuing Teachers training course and others meritorious economically poor students and few visually challenged friends. This year we have been seeking active guidance from ELTF forum in directing first generation poor students in availing Interest free education loans from nearby nationalised banks. We have successfully appealed to a boy for his loan amount to be sanctioned. We have decided to help non-professional programs through our own funding guidelines.

Child Abuse Prevention team basically promotes awareness Program on child abuse both physical and sexual. We have conducted a painting competition for children at Children’s Park in Guindy and also used the opportunity to interact with the parents.  Every year we have been supporting and taking part actively in Tulir’s awareness rally during World Child Abuse Prevention Day- November 19th.

Our disaster management team has always helped in whatever means and ways possible in addressing disaster requests. Pleasantly we had few fire disasters in the city and one which we volunteered were attended to by the local administration. Our previous experience comes in handy in identifying the right people affected by the disaster.

We had given a fresh impetus to our life saving mission Reddrops.co.in by celebrating its second anniversary on 26th January 2011. Since then we have earned a distinction of being the easy to access and transparent processes in handling the blood requests and in one single day we addressed more than 50 units. The team runs of mutual trust with Government Hospitals and NGO’s like Ekam Foundation, Cross Blood Foundation, Little Hearts Foundation, Surabhi Trust and many more. Of late we have developed a special bond with Ekam for their requests pertaining to small children. We have successfully addressed their requests for past few months.

We have been supporting visually challenged students in their education for 5 years and have been regularly conducting sports meet since 2008, their annual body meeting and their cultural festivals. We are proud to say that our friends at Visually Challenged associations can recall our volunteer’s commitment with great sense of pride and satisfaction. We have great pleasure in celebrating Helen Keller’s Birth anniversary by organising events for special children/ children with disability and mentally challenged children. We have conducted 3 events since 2009 on the day of Helen Keller’s anniversary. In 2011 we organised painting/ scrabble/ Sudoku/ Coloring/ Cultural events for special children.

Aravanaippu is CSS’s most popular team which has embarked on a special mission of making children and old people happy. This team has merged certain social events with the people at destitute homes by way of community weddings and birthday celebrations. Till date CSS has successfully organised 6 community weddings with participation from orphanages and old age homes. Every month CSS has been celebrating their volunteers’ birthday with the children from various homes for past 3 years.

New initiatives which saw light in 2010 was support to Leprosy afflicted people through rehabilitation efforts and have been supporting activities at Sri Ramakrishna Math under Mr. Siva’s guidance and support of Manager Maharaj; a other new effort has been support to Animals at Blue Cross of India with the launch of Waste Food Management Programme headed by Prithviraj for consolidating all the waste food across Chennai for animals at Blue Cross and of late had come to understanding with Armed reserve force canteen for provided wasted food for the day from its various barracks in Chennai.

All the activities are chosen by the volunteers to dedicate their energy and time for the events; hence every event has a complete faith on its purpose and eventual benefits to the recipient.
