Disaster Management Group

    

Objective - Any type of Disaster is a threat to all States and to all peoples. And timely help for the needy people is the goal of this team during both man made and natural calamities.

 Demanding Background


* India has been traditionally vulnerable to natural disasters on account of its unique geo climatic    conditions. Floods, droughts, cyclones, Earth quake, landslides and Tsunami have been recurrent    phenomena.

* Over 60% of land mass is prone for earthquakes at various intensities; over 40 million hectares is    prone to floods; about 8% of area is prone to cyclones and 68% is susceptible to droughts.

* In the decade 1990 – 2000, an average of about 4344 people lost their lives and about 30 million    people are affected by disaster every year.

 Proposed Projects


* Increasing awareness through analyzing, and spreading information and knowledge.

* Ensuring rapid and coordinated response to any natural calamity.

* Ensuring immediate treatment for any illness that may result from a natural calamity or manmade    disaster.

* First aid classes and awareness campaign.

 Our Achievement


* We conducted a health camp in Nov 2008 for flood victims on cooum banks near Koyambedu,   Sathya Sai Nagar. The camp had 300 patients lining up for check up of their infected feet and   other water borne infection. Medicines were handed over to more than 150 people.
* Collected materials (clothes, food, utensils) and delivered them for the ANDRA FLOOD RELIEF    during 2009.
* Helped the residents of _ Vyasarpadi___ area affected by a fire outburst by supplying goods at    the right time.
* Addressed ICF managers as part of the week on Disaster awareness program and took a session    on Tsunami and how to effectively implement the pre-Tsunami and post Tsunami measure.
* Also, provided food packets to the flood affected areas in north Chennai.
* We offered clothes to Fire victims at Choolaimeedu and Vysarpadi over last 2 months with    support from other NGO’s working with the affected victims.


 Action Plan


To implement training and awareness program in Schools, Colleges and Work places.
